Charles Battipede Obituary

Charles P. Battipede, age 71, passed away on April 23, 2020 at Long Island Community Hospital, Patchogue. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and resident of Moriches for seven years, Charles served honorably in The United States Army and was a member of American Legion, Babylon Post 94. Affectionately known as "Charlie the Ice Cream Man", Charlie owned Happy Time Ice Cream, ran an Ice Cream Truck in Brentwood for forty years, ran a Hot Dog / Ice Cream at West Meadow Beach in Setauket, and was a mentor to many people in his line of work. Good natured and kind hearted, Charlie was a very funny man and did great Rodney Dangerfield impersonations. He liked to spend his time Bowling and loved his cats; Baby and Buddy. Every year, he looked forward to taking a trip to Las Vegas where he and his loving wife, Elizabeth, would celebrate their anniversary.  When he was a younger man, he delivered Newsday to Robert Moses and Captain Kangaroo.

Charlie is survived by his wife; Elizabeth of Moriches, daughters; Melissa (Hugh O'Flaherty, III) Keller of Islandia, Meagan (Jordan) Marrow of Shirley, grandchildren; Jason DeJesus, Jordan Marrow, Destiny Marrow, and many nieces and nephews. Charlie was laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton. Committal Services will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of Davin's Funeral Home, Mastic.
